For more than a month now south-easterly winds have been driving hot, dry masses of air from Central Asia and the steppes on the northern shore of the Caspian Sea into Central Russia, where summers are otherwise usually damp and only moderately warm.

Forward-looking plans by the American company John Deere are in line with the goals of the Russian government – to increase the production of grain and other renewable resources. In Russia two manufacturers of agricultural machinery – ‘Rostselmash’ in Rostov-on-Don and the company ‘Traktornye zavody’ (KTZ) which is headquartered in Cheboksary - have agreed on regional scrappage schemes with the authorities in Rostov-on-Don and Nizhniy Novgorod provinces.

In decree no. 78 of 15 March 2010, Russia’s Minister of Agriculture, Elena Skrynnik, listed those exhibitions that will receive government backing in 2010. Amongst the names on this list is AgroTech Russia 2010, the only All-Russian agri-machinery exhibition in the Moscow region.

Italy is planning two joint stands at AgroTech Russia in 2010. One of them, which will cover an surface area of some 500 m2, is being organised by the Italian Institute for Economic Development whilst the other, which comes under the remit of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mantova Province, will occupy some 100 m2 of floor space.
